Alcatraz Island

Alcatraz Island
Alcatraz Island is filled with history.  The buildings originally were built on the island during the civil war as a fort.  There were howitzers pointed towards the gate, to fire upon any ships that would enter the bay.  In the early 1900's, the fort was converted into a military prison, and finally into the maximum security federal prison.  Decommissioned in the 1960's, the prison is now open for tourists to walk through.

Fisherman's Wharf: Pier 39

Much like Navy Pier in Chicago, Fisherman's Wharf is a collection of shops, restaurants, boutiques, and souvenir shacks.  You can easily spend a whole day here browsing and shopping!

Aquarium by the Bay

San Francisco's Aquarium by the Bay is a small but excellent attraction in San Francisco.  They raise Moon Jellyfish and are adding comb jellies soon.

Coit Tower:

One of the most majestic locations in San Francisco is the Coit Tower.  Built by Mrs. Coit, the tower is over 300 feet tall, and sits on one of the tallest mountains in the city.  This gives it an amazing view over the city, as you can see here:
